Amazon School Project in Brazil

In the Brazilian Amazon, along the Rio Mamori, local inhabitants have created a special place to accommodate educators, researchers and visitors called the Dolphin Lodge.  This small lodge provides a unique natural setting for jungle expeditions, learning of the igapó (the flooded forest), and personal interaction with local inhabitants.

School children who live in the area of Dolphin Lodge must travel long distances via school boat to attend school.  This project involves the construction of a facility for a primary school for the children, value-sensitive tourism training for adults, and a library.  With involvement and guidance of locals, a priority is learning English.  Therefore, English speaking individuals interested in teaching English to locals are welcome at the lodge for extended periods of time.

Contact the Center if you are interested in participating in the construction of the school, teaching primary-aged children, or teaching English at the Dolphin Lodge.
